Our Practice
A Practice Built on Patience and Care
Cahaya Pencen was established to fill a quiet gap: retirees navigating pension matters without someone trustworthy to guide them. We are here to change that.
Back to HomeOur Story
Cahaya Pencen began in 2009 when its founding advisor, returning from several years in litigation practice, noticed that Malaysian retirees — often highly capable people in every other area of life — felt lost when confronted with EPF processes, pension appeal notices, and beneficiary decisions. The forms were dense, the procedures unfamiliar, and the consequences of getting things wrong were significant.
The practice opened quietly in Petaling Jaya, starting with a handful of referrals from family members and former colleagues. Word spread gradually, as it tends to when a service is both needed and done well. Over the years, Cahaya Pencen has helped several hundred families in the Klang Valley think through EPF matters, navigate appeal hearings, and put sound beneficiary arrangements in place.
We have not grown by chasing scale. We have grown by doing careful work and earning trust over time. The practice remains small by intention — because we believe the quality of attention a client receives matters more than the number of clients we serve in a month.
Mission & Values
Our mission is to make pension-related legal matters navigable for ordinary people. Not just understandable in theory — navigable in practice, with someone alongside who can explain what each step means and what each decision involves.
Patience Over Speed
We do not rush advice. Decisions made with full information, even if they take longer to reach, tend to hold up better over time.
Transparency in Process
We explain what we are doing, why, and what it will cost. No surprises and no unexplained invoices.
Respect for the Client
Retirees and their families deserve to be treated as intelligent adults. We explain; we do not lecture or condescend.
The People Behind the Practice
A small, experienced team — each member bringing a different facet of pension and retirement law to client matters.
Razif Mohamad
Founding Advisor & Principal
Called to the Malaysian Bar in 2002, Razif spent seven years in general litigation before establishing Cahaya Pencen in 2009. He leads all EPF and pension appeal matters personally.
Nora Ibrahim
Legal Advisor — Trusts & Beneficiary
Nora specialises in estate planning and trust structuring, having worked previously at a Kuala Lumpur firm focused on private client matters. She joined Cahaya Pencen in 2015.
Thanesh Annamalai
Client Relations & Case Support
Thanesh manages client communication, appointment scheduling, and case documentation. His calm, methodical approach ensures that no detail is overlooked between consultations.
Our Standards of Practice
The commitments that guide how we work with every client, regardless of the complexity of their matter.
Bar Council Registration
Our practice is registered with the Malaysian Bar and all advisors hold current practising certificates. Client matters are handled in accordance with Bar Council professional conduct rules.
Client Confidentiality
All information shared with our practice is subject to legal professional privilege. Client records are held securely and accessed only by the advising team directly handling the matter.
Written Summaries Provided
After each substantive consultation, clients receive a written record of the advice given and the options discussed. This is included in our EPF Counsel and Trust Structuring services as standard.
Response Within One Working Day
Enquiries submitted through our contact form or by email are acknowledged within one working day. We believe that timely communication — even simply to confirm receipt — is part of respectful service.
Transparent Fee Structures
Service fees are stated clearly before any engagement commences. There are no hidden charges and no incremental billing for standard communication within a service scope.
Family Involvement Welcome
We actively welcome family members at consultations. Pension decisions affect households, not just individuals, and we adjust our approach accordingly when multiple generations are present.
Pension Legal Services in Petaling Jaya
Cahaya Pencen operates from Petaling Jaya, Selangor, serving retirees and families across the Klang Valley who require legal guidance on Employees Provident Fund matters, pension appeals, and beneficiary arrangements. Our advisors are well versed in the procedural requirements of KWSP, the relevant tribunal processes for pension appeals in Malaysia, and the legal instruments available for structuring pension-related nominations and trusts.
Working with a legal practice that understands the specific landscape of Malaysian retirement law — rather than a general practice that occasionally handles pension queries — can make a material difference in outcomes. We understand the timing windows for EPF withdrawals, the documentation standards expected at appeal hearings, and the family law considerations that bear on beneficiary structuring.
The pension years require a different kind of legal support than earlier career and business phases of life. Decisions made during retirement carry long-term consequences for surviving family members. Cahaya Pencen exists to help retirees approach those decisions with the same care and deliberateness they brought to the important decisions earlier in life — this time with a knowledgeable advisor beside them.
Our Petaling Jaya office is accessible by public transport and by car, with parking available nearby. Appointments can be arranged for mornings or afternoons, Monday through Saturday, to accommodate the schedules of those who may be managing other medical or family commitments.
