What Our Clients Say

Accounts from retirees and families across the Klang Valley, shared with their permission.

AH

Ahmad Hashim

Retiree, Shah Alam

"I had been putting off dealing with my EPF for almost two years because I found the whole thing overwhelming. Razif sat with me for over an hour at the first meeting and just walked through everything. By the end I understood what my options were and what each one meant for my daughter if anything happened to me. I had expected to feel more confused after a legal meeting, not less."

Lim Mei Shan

Retiree, Subang Jaya

"My children suggested I come here after my pension appeal was rejected the first time around. Nora and Razif prepared everything and I felt very well represented at the hearing. I appreciated that Razif explained beforehand what would happen and how long things would take. We were not successful in the end, but I understood why, and they explained what could be done next. That matters."

Rajan Suppiah

Retiree, Petaling Jaya

"I came in about my beneficiary nomination — my situation is a bit complicated because I have children from two marriages. Nora took the time to understand the family picture before she said anything about what could be done. The document we ended up with addressed things I had not thought to ask about. The fee was reasonable and clearly explained upfront."

Halimah Kadir

Retiree, Klang

"I brought my son along to the meeting and they were very welcoming about that. Sometimes when my son asks the questions I understand better. Razif was patient and did not seem bothered that we needed to go over some things twice. I got a written summary after which my son and I read through together at home."

Tan Chee Keong

Retiree, Damansara

"After my wife passed away I needed to sort out the pension situation quite urgently, but I also did not want to make mistakes under pressure. Thanesh was very kind when I first called — he organised things quickly without making me feel rushed. The actual advice from Razif was thorough and I left knowing exactly what I needed to do next."

Zainab Ahmad

Retiree, Puchong

"My pension appeal had been going on for a year before I found Cahaya Pencen through a neighbour's recommendation. Razif took it on, filed everything properly, and the matter was resolved within three months. He kept me informed throughout without me needing to chase. The office is easy to reach from Puchong which was important for me."

Client Journeys in Detail

Three case summaries — shared in general terms with client permission — illustrating how different pension matters unfolded.

Case Summary — EPF Withdrawal

The Situation

A 65-year-old retiree from Subang Jaya had been advised informally to withdraw his full EPF balance immediately upon retirement. He came to us uncertain whether this was actually the right move given his circumstances — a surviving spouse and two adult children with varying degrees of financial dependency.

What We Did

We walked through the timing options in two sessions, covering the tax assessment implications and the difference between full and partial withdrawals in terms of what the surviving spouse would receive if the client passed away during the withdrawal period. We also reviewed his existing nomination to confirm it reflected his current family picture.

The Outcome

The client chose a phased withdrawal approach after understanding the tax and survivorship implications. He also updated his nomination. He said at the end that he wished he had come in before discussing the matter with others, as the informal advice he had received was incomplete.

Case Summary — Appeal Hearing

The Situation

A former civil servant from Klang had her pension reduced following an administrative reclassification shortly before her retirement date. She had lodged an appeal independently but the initial submission was returned for insufficient documentation.

What We Did

We reviewed the original appeal and the grounds for its rejection. We identified three supporting documents that had not been included and prepared a properly structured submission with accompanying witness statements. Razif represented the client at the tribunal hearing and delivered oral submissions addressing the reclassification decision directly.

The Outcome

The tribunal upheld the appeal in part — the original pension amount was not fully restored but a meaningful portion was reinstated. The client was briefed on the result and what options remained open. The engagement from initial contact to post-hearing follow-up took approximately eleven weeks.

Case Summary — Beneficiary Structuring

The Situation

A retiree from Petaling Jaya had remarried and had children from both marriages, one of whom had a disability requiring long-term care. His existing EPF nomination was from his first marriage and had not been updated in fourteen years.

What We Did

Nora spent the initial session understanding the family structure and the specific care requirements of the dependent child before suggesting any legal approach. A trust arrangement was recommended and drafted, addressing both the immediate care needs and the longer-term interests of all beneficiaries. The nomination was also updated.

The Outcome

The client left with a complete set of updated documents and a clear understanding of how each family member would be provided for. He returned six months later to make a minor adjustment when a family circumstance changed — this was handled without additional charge as a follow-up to the original engagement.
